Pro Wedding Tips - Confetti

Years of experience tells me that the confetti shots are some your most loved images. And you won’t get a second chance to get this right.

I’m going to give you the best tips when it comes to getting the perfect shots.

  1. MORE IS MORE

Confetti works best when every guest has a really good handful - or two preferably. And I mean a hand so full, it’s spilling out between fingers. They can barely hold it. In fact it’s blowing away as they wait for you. We’re going for a blizzard, not a sprinkling.

  2. DITCH THE CONES

Little paper packets and mini bags are super cute but save your money. Borrow or buy some baskets or bowls you can use again and put all the confetti in them. Have 3 or 4 to make dishing out quicker. Those little packages usually get thrown by accident, the confetti doesn't actually come out and the moment has gone in a second.

  3. WHERE AND WHEN

Agree with your venue and in advance where it’s okay to throw confetti and chat through the plan with your photographer. Some venues are even okay with you throwing it inside on your way back down the aisle - which is a perfect plan for a damp day too.

  4. LOOK UP!

Okay easier said than done. It’s super hard to face into the beautiful confetti blizzard we’ve created but please don’t look at the ground or we won’t see your smiling faces. Your reactions to the situation are often what makes the photos super special.

  5. WALK - DON’T RUN

This moment will only last seconds. Take. Your. Time. And stop halfway for a kiss.

  6. AIM HIGH

This is for the guests. Throw up and over, high into the air - not straight towards you. We want a lovely slow flutter.

  7. DOUBLE UP FOR THE DANCE FLOOR

Make that first dance go off with some confetti cannons for the dance floor. A few hand-held ones for your bridesmaids and groomsmen will look incredible in your photos as you dance to your favourite tune.

  8. CONFETTI ALTERNATIVES

Don’t be tempted with bubbles. I see this advice all over the internet and oddly - not many actual photos (what does that tell you). They’re messy, will definitely spill over hands and outfits and then what do you do with all the tiny bottles and wands?! How about some ribbon wands instead? These from Etsy are beautiful: ETSY RIBBON WANDS. Or throwing streamers which stay attached to your hand? Try these: HAND THROWN STREAMERS. Best of all, both are totally mess free.
