Chic rural wedding at Trevenna in Cornwall

My eyes lit up when I saw Julia’s email come in saying her and Sid were getting married at Trevenna Barns and asking about my availability. As a creative person, having venues to work with which give so much opportunity, is just really rewarding. I was of course delighted when they chose me.

Everything they organised suited the venue and them perfectly. Keep scrolling past all the photos for the list of fabulous suppliers.

After a blustery start and some hesitation about the outdoor ceremony, the clouds parted for a glorious ceremony on the lawn followed by a drink reception on the terrace. There was no standing still with the talented guys from Harbour providing the accompaniment.

The delicious wedding breakfast was served in the main barn space. Julia and Sid chose a dark navy table coverings which made all the tableware and centrepieces contrast magically, below the incredible hanging botanical masterpiece. Before the party, we captured some portraits which I always think is the perfect - and sometimes the first opportunity couples get to really see each other all day. This playful pair were easy to shoot and the high spirits carried them onto the dance floor where they were joined by all their loved ones.

Thank you both. It was a day to remember always. x

Wedding in winter - Muddifords Court, Devon

As I’m preparing for some winter weddings, I was reminded of Jenna and Sean’s day last December at the splendid Muddiford’s Court near Cullompton in Devon. Winter weddings in my opinion, are so special. Festive or not, they’re cosy and warm and make for perfect atmospheric images to treasure. Candles, sparklers and fairy lights all contribute to creating the perfect twinkly backdrop and romantic atmosphere, which is, after all, the reason you’ve come together.

As for the shorter daylight hours, embrace it! Jenna, Sean and I talked a lot about the timings for the day to make sure we had ample opportunity to capture everything they wanted, even with the drive between the church and the reception venue. While the flash isn’t everybody’s friend, used correctly it will ensure you get all those fun candid moments (check out some of my dance floor favourites below).

Scroll down for all the suppliers they chose for their day. Big thanks to them all and to the happy couple for giving me such a glorious day to shoot.

Getting married with a view at Cranberries Hideaway

In a quiet corner of East Devon, overlooking the Axe Valley is Cranberries Hideaway. And hidden away it is. Hidden from hustle and bustle, main roads and roaring traffic, passers by and anyone who isn’t there just for you.

Maxine and Aidan’s wedding was my first opportunity to visit. The sun was blistering, providing guests with a fantastic view from the hilltop ceremony location and the best excuse to stay ‘hydrated’.

Everything the couple chose fo their day, matched their glorious and rustic surroundings perfectly. Special mention and links to all their suppliers can be found below.

The grounds were generous and the buildings, fields and courtyards provided more than ample of opportunity for us to get a great mix of portrait shots in a short space of time, in perfect warm light. I never like to keep couples away from loved ones too long so being able to get a different look between sequences quickly and without feeling rushed, was great for me - and them.

Check out the biggest smiles and sweetest kisses with their beautiful daughter Lottie. It’s what happiness looks like.

Country house chic at Rockbeare Manor

Ok so I agree, I shouldn't have favourites, but I just can't help it! Rockbeare Manor outside Exeter is way up there with one of my most adored places to document weddings. It's such a versatile venue, the space and light is so generous and the team there are beyond incredible.

Add to the mix a fun, laid back and totally loved up couple who have excellent good taste and it's pretty much as good as it gets.

As well as a neutral colour scheme for her bouquet, Emma chose an incredible gown by designer Suzanne Neville who is responsible for dressing celebrities in the UK and across the world. A delicate lace veil completed her elegant and sophisticated look.

Scroll down for more gorgeousness from their day. Congratulations both of you.

Sandy toes and salty kisses - a Lusty Glaze beach wedding

There's something magic about feeling sand between your toes. The texture, the way it moves underneath your feet, I'm pretty sure it takes most of us back to a happy place in our minds. Which is why Lusty Glaze is such a special place to get married and that when Danielle and Adam asked me to shoot their wedding on the beautiful Cornish beach, I had to say YES immediately.

A blustery and windswept morning gave way to glorious sunshine right in time for the ceremony.  And the sun lasted all day, even long enough for games into the evening (because what's a beach wedding without tug-of-war in a wedding dress, right?!).

Every detail was a perfect combination of elegant and fun, which will go as no surprise for anyone who knows Danielle because this seems to me to be exactly how she is. From the amazing outfits for their babies (and stars of the show, Ralph and Darcy) to having their much loved fur babies running in the surf. Thank you so much for asking me to spend that day with you capturing these memories. It was an honour.

Kingston Estate and late summer sunshine

This is what often happens; I am scanning weddings building portfolios for new couples and I am reminded of the most wonderful days I've spent with some of the loveliest people. This definitely includes Sophie and husband Chris and most definitely their son Harrison.

Kingston Estate wedding

Sophie and Chris married at Kingston Estate near Totnes in Devon. It was mid-September. Perfectly warm enough for a ceremony in the sun, to linger outside with a drink and with soft early evening light. It's honestly one of my favourite months for weddings.

Scroll on for a selection of shots from their gorgeous day and the suppliers who all helped make it happen.

Boho vibes at inspiration shoot

What's so great about working as a wedding and portrait Photographer, is all the fabulous people I get to meet. Of course this isn't just confined to the wonderful couples or families who choose me, but also all the talented and creative suppliers I get to work with.

So when Holly Williams of Hollyhocks asked if we could get together to give Devon brides some real inspiration for their beautiful bouquets and arrangements, I couldn't say no. Her creations are always a joy to shoot. But why stop there?! I'm not someone who deals in half measures so with the generosity of a handful of other local women in the wedding business, we created our boho vibes shoot at the incredible Shilstone House.

Think succulents, copper, hand crafted calligraphy, wild and unstructured florals and you're almost there. Throw in bespoke jewelled headpieces, a clever cake, some very cool furniture, an amazing gown and stunning make-up and you've got the gist. Keep scrolling for some of the lushness.

Love in London

Rhiannon and I met when she was a Bridesmaid for another couple (the gorgeous Jen and Tom) in 2016. Fast forward to the first weekend of 2018 and I'm rattling my way to London on the train to shoot her marriage to Jonathan.

I have been lucky to travel a lot throughout my life but London is a special place. It feels like home in so many ways. I met Rhiannon at The Lansdowne Club in Mayfair for her prep where she was ever inch the elegant bride.

Curry-180.jpg

On destination weddings, I always try and travel with an assistant. Another pair of hands is so valuable for me, allows me to get more coverage than I would if I was alone. A big thanks to Yasmin who was great fun and incredibly helpful.

We had travelled the day before making the most of the trip and visiting the locations. I've never been late and this wasn't going to be the first time! Like clockwork, everyone came together in the City for their ceremony.

With Leadenhall Market nearby and mostly deserted (except for some Harry Potter fans checking out a filming location), the new Mr and Mrs Curry braved the elements for some couples shots in the dark.

Having dispensed with the PDAs, The Lansdowne Club team welcomed us into the warm where Rhiannon and Jonathan's loved ones were waiting. The happy couple mingled with guests and greeted everyone personally in a lovely receiving line. The ballroom was resplendent on that dark winter evening, feeling perfectly cosy for such a great space.

Some emotional and very funny speeches later, I said goodnight and went back to my hotel with a happy heart for a hot cup of tea and my favourite red velvet Lola's Cupcake.
