5 good reasons why you need to get family photos

If you have clicked over to this post then let me say hi! Hopefully here because you’re think about photos for yourself, or perhaps someone else but for a whole host of reasons, you haven’t committed to anything. I mean, how do you choose the right photographer? How does it all work? It’s probably more than you can afford right now and you absolutely hate having your photo taken…? Am I close…?

Ok so let’s be real. We do want gorgeous images of the people we love the most and we do want photos which will light up our social media feeds and that we can show off around our homes with pride. But we don’t want close-ups or any pictures that insensitively document those few pounds we haven’t yet lost since lockdown or posey pictures where we all feel just a little bit awkward. I include myself in that.

Instead, how about we make some carefully crafted and lovingly captured photos of the people you love so hard, it hurts. Completely non-embarrassing, fun images where you get to hug them, kiss them, holding their squishy hands and giggle with them. Natural, relaxed photos of all of the above is absolutely what I’m about.

So here are my 5 reasons not to delay in booking your family photos

  1. You’ll never get this time back - those faces will change in the blink of an eye. Perhaps to you it’s subtle but a day becomes a week and a week soon becomes months and before you know it, all you have is regret that you didn’t do it sooner. And honestly, sometimes I feel like my kids have literally grown over night! I need to remember them the way they are right now.

  2. So you can be in the picture - because you’re always the one taking the photos, you’re never in them? My laptop is bursting with photos of my husband with our kiddos and it’s like I actually never existed. I understand if you’re a bit self conscious and I’ll only use flattering light and angles and strategic positions to make sure you love every frame. Your kids are your best props and accessories!

  3. Quality is everything - and iPhone just doesn’t cut it. While your camera phone is probably great for documenting snippets of your day to day lives, the image quality is beyond better with professional cameras and someone behind the lens who knows how to use it.

  4. Gifting and giving - you almost certainly know someone or even a few people, who would melt at receiving a print or product made from your photos. And there are so many options to choose from. And not just right now. Your photos are a gift to your kids for their futures. That’s something super special.

  5. Because the ‘right time’ never comes - maybe you gave up on PE with Joe after the third day (like me) and you’re not feeling your best, or maybe you have expenses right now that mean you can’t justify spending money on the luxury of photos, or maybe you’re unsure of how a photo session works and you don’t feel like you can ask. All of which can be overcome. I’m a Mum and a Wife and I totally get it.

I’ll never ask you to say cheese and that is my firm commitment. My approach is to put you all totally at ease, let your guards down and feel cool and comfortable with interacting with me. In fact most times you won’t know or feel like you’re posing at all. Yes it’s a shoot, but it’s also about play and chats and walks. And don’t worry, your little people are always much more obliging with this than you think they will be - and no bribery required.

My shoots always happen in the great outdoors because there’s so much to see, talk about and explore. There’s no pressure to perform and it’s brilliant for everyone’s well being to outside and getting involved with nature. Living by the sea in Devon, I love the beach and you’ll get that feeling from my gallery and Instagram. Even in winter I’m likely to encourage paddling. But if you like going on a bear hunt in the woods, we can do that too. And I love to know what kind of photos you like. We can share Pinterest ideas, colours, looks and styles so you feel totally ready. I’ll be in standard Mum jeans and my favourite trainers and if that’s more like you, then I like your style.

To celebrate the changing of the seasons and because for so many reasons, we all feel like we need a bit more love and kindness in the world, I am offering a 20% saving on my ‘Option 2’ session price. This is a one hour session with all images supplied, via my secure online gallery site where images can be downloaded for no extra charge. Please quote FAMILYTRIBE when making contact about your session. My price guide is available on request through the ‘Contact Me’ options on my site. Keep scrolling for the small print*.
