Boho luxe wedding vibes at Upton Barn in Devon

Boho Luxe, a definition: A boho luxe wedding effortlessly weaves together free-spirited bohemian elements with the opulence of luxe details, creating a captivating and unique atmosphere. And this is exactly what Sophie and Callum created for their wedding day at the exclusive Upton Barn and Walled Garden in Devon. Both super stylish, creative and effortlessly cool. They set the tone for a chilled party vibe to celebrate their marriage.

When I arrived at The Paddock to cover the finishing touches of Sophie and the girls’ preparations, they were being well looked after by Jess (styling hair) and Kate (MUA). That space is utter perfection. Professional beauty stations, modern Scandi decor and lots of luxurious touches. I shot the details; dried flowers by Pumpkin & Pye, silk ribbons and stylish personalised stationery in warm neutrals with accents of black. Sophie was keen to be ready in plenty of time to get loads of shots ahead of the ceremony with all her Bride tribe looking incredible in the warm sun.

She emerged to her waiting Bridesmaids in her beautifully fitting gown from Kiva and Zen Bridal. A combination of lace and tulle with that signature plunging neckline high leg slit. Super sexy and super chic. She was greeted again in an emotional reveal outside the Paddock before heading down to meet Callum.

Callum was waiting in the Stable Barn, dressed in a tailored stone coloured suit with brown loafers. Supported by his Groomsmen, it was clear to see the strength other bond. First her Bridesmaids, in long, light sage green gowns with white bouquets, Sophie swayed down the aisle to be reunited with him and become Mr and Mrs. The shared laughs as they exchanged vows, before opting for an indoor confetti toss.

*Sidenote. Outdoors isn’t always better for confetti. Wind, sun direction and available space can affect the success of those shots, even in the best of weather. Find my CONFETTI TIPS BLOG post where I explain how to get epic results on your day.

The black accents in the stationery followed through into the venue decor style, picking up on the distinctive black ironwork found throughout Upton Barn. The personalised stationery theme continued with the signage and table menus. Black metal with soft linen tones and a feminine font style working to balance each other perfectly. And likewise with the soft candles and elegant flowers under the black iron beams in the barn and the distinctive lighting and enormous picture window looking out on the neighbouring horses.

It’s never my style to drag couples from the reception for hours of photos. Most people who hire me love my reportage, candid style shots and want all that fun and joy captured with them as the main characters and that’s what I love to see too. Smiles, hugs, naughty laughs and plenty of champagne flowing. Of course there are the obligatory group shots which I always nail with minimal fuss or distraction from the celebrating. I find small pockets of time throughout the day for portraits and thanks to the amazing team at Upton Barn, we always make time for those sneak peeks of the feasting room before welcoming guests inside to eat. Those few quiet moments are some of my absolute favourites.

The speeches were emotional, funny and sincere. Every joke meant with love and fun, sharing memories and stories, knowing those moments would add to the list they would look back on. Seeing how completely loved they are made me emotional too.

Keeping the energy high, guests headed out to the bar to play on the casino tables. No money is exchanged but it’s hard not to get engrossed in the jeopardy of the games.

With everyone having fun, Sophie, Callum and I headed out to get some portrait shots while they wouldn’t be missed. The crops were still long in the fields adjacent to Upton and the tones and texture were the perfect setting for their couples shots. Sophie and Callum were so at ease, enjoying the fun moments and making sure we nailed the shoot. With little prompting needed, we got a great mix of romantic and sexy, fun and relaxed natural shots before rejoining the party and cracking open the bubbles for the champagne tower.

Honestly, Sophie was a vibe all day but she owned the dance floor. Singing with the live band, she and Callum brought the room alive with their first dance and had everyone partying hard from early in the evening. I can only imagine how wild it got later.

Sophie and Callum celebrated their day with individuality, creativity, and romance. A day of perfectly fused style and fun with elegance and luxury. Spending their day with them was such an honour and a big thanks to the incredible team at Upton Barn for their constant support and making me feel so totally home every time.
